Calling Israel Long Distance
Keep in mind that Israel is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and seven hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the United States. Israel does not go into daylight savings time at the same time as the U.S. or Europe. There may be periods of several weeks or a month when Israel is only six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
When calling Israel, first be sure to dial 011, the international calling code. Then dial 972, Israel’s international country code. The next code you dial depends upon the city you wish to call. Jerusalem requires the 2 code, while Gush Dan (which includes Tel Aviv, Rishon LeZion, and Petah Tiqva) requires the 3 code. A full list of
Israel city codes can be found here.
